Ideal for dry and sensitive skin.
This softening emollient cream with pure Labdanum (Cistus) extract is designed for both face and body, providing effective treatment and nourishment for dry and sensitive skin. The cream boasts strong antioxidant, antiseptic, and healing properties. The active ingredient, Cistus oil, comes from an endemic plant of Crete and has been known since the Minoan era.
Cistus resin, also known as Aladania, is harvested every summer and has been used both locally and aromatically. It possesses remarkable wound-healing abilities, effectively addressing various skin problems and soothing muscle pain. The astringent properties of Aladania resin help tone the skin and reduce signs of aging. With daily use, wrinkles and fine lines are significantly reduced. Cistus oil is particularly beneficial for sensitive and dry skin.
According to mythology, the Olympian gods once convened to decide which plants would have healing properties. They agreed that Aladania or Cistus would aid wounded warriors, but this decision was met with disagreement from the goddesses who believed a plant with delicate pink flowers should have beauty-related properties. Eventually, it was decided that Aladania would possess both healing and cosmetic attributes.
Scientifically, Cistus creticus, a species of Cistus, contains the most healing, medicinal, and cosmetic properties. Notably, Cistus has the highest content of polyphenols among all plants in Europe, showcasing an exceptional ability to combat free radicals and exhibit potent antioxidant activity.
Cistus offers numerous health benefits, acting as a powerful antioxidant (anti-cancer), tonic, and digestive tract soother. It possesses astringent, expectorant, analgesic, antispasmodic, and sedative properties, making it useful for addressing insomnia, stomach and intestinal problems, bloating, and colitis.
The shoots and leaves of Cistus contain a balsamic resin aromatic substance called labdanum. This resin consists of organic compounds known as lithic diterpenes, which studies suggest have antimicrobial and cytostatic activity, inhibiting cell proliferation and potentially preventing tumor formation.
Labdanum has a long history, dating back 2. It was used in the Minoan civilization for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes and was even used in embalming by the Egyptians. In Orthodox tradition, it is one of the 40 components of Holy Myrrh. During the Middle Ages, Aladania was utilized against the plague. Today, in Northern Crete, specifically in the area of Sises within the Municipality of Mylopotamos and the Municipality of Malevizi, the tradition of collecting Laudanum continues.
