Botanical name: Rosmarinus Officinalis
Rosemary essential oil is widely used in both beauty and health treatments.
Since ancient times it has been used as a fragrance and it was also burned as incense. From the 16th century, it was also used as a cosmetic. In the Middle Ages it was quite popular because of its beneficial ability against the plague. It was later used as a medicine against typhoid.
Extraction Method
Distillation is a delicate process requiring experience and constant supervision in order to obtain a high-quality oil. Our chemists and perfumers undertake this delicate process to obtain high quality essential oils. During the steam distillation process, steam passes through the plant material. The combination of heated steam and gentle pressure causes the essential oil to be released from microscopic protective sacs flooding the air with the most beautiful and exquisite natural scents.
Our equipment ensures the best quality of essential oil. It takes 100 kg of herbs to make 1 lt of essential oil. We produce Dittany essential oil in a worldwide exclusivity, as well as a wide range of rare essential oils from flowers and herbs in our distillery in Agios Nikolaos, Crete. An “essencier” or separator collects the floral water or hydrosol and the essential oil. The difference in density between the two liquids makes it easy to separate the essential oil from the floral water.
Properties
The main component of the oil is 1,8 cineole which, in addition to its antiviral and antimicrobial action, is also related to cognitive performance and concentration.
Researchers at the University of Northumbria in Britain conducted experiments in which 66 people were divided into two groups. One group entered a room that was perfumed with rosemary essential oils while the other group did not come into contact with the plant. Participants were then asked to perform various memory exercises. Those who came in contact with rosemary were found to have higher levels of a plant component in their blood (1,8-cineole) and ultimately performed better than others in the tests. 1,8-Cineole has been shown to affect the body's chemical mechanisms that affect memory.
