Dittany is endemic, a Phrygian of Crete. It is a sought after, rare and hard to find herb perched on steep cliffs. It got its name from the Cretan mountain, Dikti (Lassithi mountains where according to mythology was the birthplace of Zeus) and the word shrub (Diktainos, the Dynasty of Dikti) where it used to be abundant. Dittany is considered a real gift of the deity, a messenger of health, happiness and love. This miraculous herb has been known since the Minoan era when the Minoans made perfumes, healing ointments & aromatic oils from the herb. From the Minoan era it has been given the name theangelis, a plant "sent by the gods". Dittany contains polyphenols that have been shown in studies to have antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. Diktamou oil stands out for its antioxidants, such as polyphenols that regenerate cells, restore the skin's elasticity & contribute to its firmness, giving a youthful appearance. It has excellent antibacterial and soothing properties, so it soothes the skin and protects it from irritation. Protects against cold and wind and retains moisture on dry and dehydrated skin. Its compatibility with human skin allows it to be absorbed by the skin to the maximum degree.
